Models named: 787-8, 787-9. Read the applicability below — it usually turns on serial or part numbers too.

Applicability*9

This AD applies to all The Boeing Company Model 787-8 and 787-9 airplanes, certificated in any category.

Compliance

Comply with this AD within the compliance times specified, unless already done.

Required actions

Within 7 days after the effective date of this AD, do the action specified in paragraph (g)(1) or (g)(2) of this AD. Repeat the action specified in paragraph (g)(1) or (g)(2) of this AD thereafter at intervals not to exceed 21 days. (1) Cycle the airplane electrical power, in accordance with “Option 1” of the Accomplishment Instructions of Boeing Alert Service Bulletin B787-81205-SB270040-00, Issue 001, dated November 25, 2016. (2) Cycle power to the left, center, and right FCMs, in accordance with “Option 2” of the Accomplishment Instructions of Boeing Alert Service Bulletin B787-81205-SB270040-00, Issue 001, dated November 25, 2016.

Unsafe condition

This AD was prompted by a report indicating that all three flight control modules (FCMs) might simultaneously reset if continuously powered on for 22 days. We are issuing this AD to prevent simultaneous resets of all three FCMs, which could result in flight control surfaces not moving in response to flight crew inputs for a short time and consequent temporary loss of controllability.

Affected ADs

None.
