AD 98-09-27 Airworthiness Directives; Rolls-Royce, plc RB211 Trent 768 and 772 Series Turbofan Engines
Applicability*9
Rolls-Royce, plc (R-R) RB211 Trent 768 and 772 series turbofan engines, installed on but not limited to the Airbus A330-341 and A330-342 series aircraft. Note 1: This airworthiness directive (AD) applies to each engine identified in the preceding applicability provision, regardless of whether it has been modified, altered, or repaired in the area subject to the requirements of this AD. For engines that have been modified, altered, or repaired so that the performance of the requirements of this AD is affected, the owner/operator must request approval for an alternative method of compliance in accordance with paragraph (b) of this AD. The request should include an assessment of the effect of the modification, alteration, or repair on the unsafe condition addressed by this AD; and, if the unsafe condition has not been eliminated, the request should include specific proposed actions to address it.
Compliance
Required as indicated, unless accomplished previously. To prevent thrust reverser hinge failure, possibly resulting in liberation of the thrust reverser cowl duct from the engine nacelle, which could result in impact damage to other sections of the aircraft, accomplish the following: (a) Perform initial and repetitive visual inspections of thrust reverser hinge lugs and attachment ribs for cracks, and, if necessary, remove from service and replace with serviceable parts, in accordance with R-R Service Bulletin (SB) No. RB.211-78-B115, Revision 1, dated March 14, 1997, as follows: (1) Perform the initial inspection at the earlier of the following: (i) 250 hours time in service (TIS) after the effective date of this AD; or (ii) 1,200 flight cycles since new (CSN). (2) Thereafter, perform visual inspections at intervals not to exceed 1,200 flight cycles in service (CIS) since last inspection. (3) If thrust reverser hinge lugs or attachment ribs are found cracked, remove from service and replace with serviceable parts, in accordance with R-R Service Bulletin (SB) No. RB.211-78-B115, Revision 1, dated March 14, 1997. (b) An alternative method of compliance or adjustment of the compliance time that provides an acceptable level of safety may be used if approved by the Manager, Engine Certification Office. Operators shall submit their requests through an appropriate FAA Principal Maintenance Inspector, who may add comments and then send it to the Manager, Engine Certification Office. Note 2: Information concerning the existence of approved alternative methods of compliance with this airworthiness directive, if any, may be obtained from the Engine Certification Office. (c) Special flight permits may be issued in accordance with sections 21.197 and 21.199 of the Federal Aviation Regulations (14 CFR 21.197 and 21.199) to operate the aircraft to a location where the inspection requirements of this AD can be accomplished. (d) The actions required by this AD shall be performed in accordance with the following R-R SB: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Document No. Pages Revision Date ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RB.211-78-B115................................ 1-6 1 March 14, 1997. You just looked this one up by hand
TrackAD holds all 12,278 of them and matches them against the aircraft you actually look after — airframe, engine, propeller and appliances in one pass — then works out what falls due and when.
- Bring your existing list in from a spreadsheet Paste the rows straight out of Excel. Headers like C/W Date and N/A are read for you.
- A copy that works when this does not One file. No internet, no login, no this software running. For the morning something has to be produced and the computer is not cooperating.
- $5 a month, or $50 a year Up to 50 aircraft on either.
